WINTER INTO SPRING: SWEATERS THAT WORK NO MATTER WHAT WEATHER

HALFTIME_HOODIE_2C

The fashion industry’s most common way of organizing new arrivals is into collections: autumn/winter and spring/summer. But, in the real world, for so many of us, the seasonal transition that’s the most relevant–and the most challenging–is the one from winter into spring.

From February through April, in many parts of the United States, temperatures swing from warm to cool, not just outdoors but in the schools, retail stores, and work places where we spend so much of our time. It’s uncomfortable, it’s inconvenient, and it makes it difficult to know what to wear when we wake up in the morning.

The secret to chic, comfortable winter-into-spring dressing is to layer– with light, easy to take on (and even easier to take off) sweaters a key component of any ensemble. Sweaters that are sleeveless, unusually light, and/or open down the front–or that feature hoods, deep pockets, and intriguing details–are especially valuable.

Here are some of our favorites.

THIS HOOD

LOOKS GOOD

Made from superfine merino wool and available in six exuberantly bright colorways, the HALFTIME HOODIE features contrast edging and a generous cowl neck that can be pulled up and worn as a hood–eliminating the need for a hat on cold winter-into-spring mornings. It can be worn as a top or as outerwear, over an oxford or even a blouse, in place of a jacket.

PULL THE WOOL

OVER YOUR EYES

Sumptuous and warm, the NEO PLAID SWEATER is as neatly relaxed as it is sharply designed. Available in four colorways, it’s made in New Zealand from 100% superfine merino wool. Take advantage of its lightness–its lack of bulk–by wearing it under a blazer, completing your look with wide-legged pleated trousers and kicky ankle boots. A classic camel trench completes the look. Want to take your new look over the top? Wear accessories matching and emphasizing the neo-plaid’s bold, graphic stripes: a yellow belt, an orange watch, a stack of red bangle bracelets.

A VESTED INTEREST

IN KEEPING COMFORTABLE

It’s a vest. It’s a cardigan. It’s extra-long–and extra-versatile. Introducing the SLEEVELESS LONG VEST, currently available in seven bold, bright colorways. Swingy, billowy, and extremely figure-flattering, this luxe merino classic pairs well with jeans, capris, leggings, even a structured flat-front midi-skirt–especially one with some volume.
